Inspired by the ballerina costumes of Léon Bakst, the fashion design of Erté, and the detail, maximalism, and sensuality of India, as well as an imagined dancer wearing a pearly silk clown costume edged with a pair of these cuffs—perhaps a matching ruff... Léon was born in Belarus, as was my maternal great grandfather, and so I like to pretend there is a Belarusian ballerina hidden inside of me, waiting for her matching clown cuffs so she can dazzle her audience.
